OfficePlace overview and onboarding

Modified on Wed, 26 Feb at 11:58 AM

This article will provide you with relevant information about OfficePlace and the pending migration to OfficePlace from RealTime Service.

Reasons why you must move to OfficePlace

In October 2026 Microsoft is deprecating Exchange Web Services (EWS) which Realtime Service relays for communication with Exchange Online. With OfficePlace this communication is switched to MS Graph which also should improve the reliability of notifications compared to EWS and opens up for development of new Resource Central features in the future previously limited by EWS.

With OfficePlace follows the ability to support more granular and improved permission scope compared to EWS impersonation permission set. OfficePlace offers support for both Delegate and Application Permissions with or without RBAC which hold much better options in regard to limiting the permission scope used by the application to interact with resources' or the users' mailbox or calendar. For example, the product can restrict access to no access the Inbox but read-write access to a calendar folder which is not possible with Application Impersonation Permissions in EWS.

Furthermore, firewall openings through Port 10002 will no longer be needed as OfficePlace communicates solely through Port 443 with a technology that does not require any inbound port openings.

What is OfficePlace

OfficePlace is a cloud and subscription-based application hosted on a Microsoft Azure Platform that connects Resource Central with your Office 365 environment.

Customer data is separated, and no reservation data is stored as OfficePlace only stores hashed delta change keys used to identify changes to reservation data that must be sent to your Resource Central database. Resource and User configuration data used in OfficePlace is kept in Microsoft Azure. Users would only need to be System Administrators.

Important dates

The below timeline shows some of the important dates that you should be aware of. In regard to onboarding extending the lifetime of RealTime Service beyond the end of life of Azure AD Graph in June, a RealTime Service version with integration to Entra ID through MS Graph will be release in April giving additional time to migrate before Microsoft deprecates EWS.

Exchange Online customers with some users only available in Exchange OnPremise will not be supported with this first release, but a solution for such a hybrid setup is being considered.
