Obsolete sources in Windows Event Log

Symptom

You might find the following obsolete sources in Event Viewer:

Cause

The observed obsolete sources are created by the legacy revisions of Resource Central (RC) and they are not in use anymore in RC 3.8.

 

Additional information

The log folder for RC 3.8 is defined by the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\EventLog\Resource Central

Currently, event log sources used for RC 3.8 are as follows:

Workaround

If you want the obsolete sources to disappear, you can manually remove them. Here is how to do it:

To completely clear the filter list, you have to access all these keys:

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Clone

In each of the above key, go to Services ⇒ EventLog ⇒ Resource Central, then manually delete the unused folder:
